Thanks to an SEL Grant, this workshop is free for all to attend. Note - this event will be held at Joseph Arthur Middle School (Art Room) 160 St. Ellen Mine Rd. O'Fallon, IL 62269.  Join Debi West in this hands-on PD as she shares a plethora of creative teaching and learning tips including advocacy, assessment, choice-based ideas, STEAM-based ideas, SEL and Studio Habits of the Mind!  Are you looking for creative ways to start up a NAHS and/or art club? How about fun ways to incorporate art history and social justice issues? We will cover all of this and more as participants will work collaboratively sharing successes and creating a group mixed media quilt. This free workshop will be hosted by Mascoutah # 19, Wingate Elementary.   “A Self-Inventory for Physical Education Educators: Wellness as a Foundation of Your Profession” uses current research to explore the purpose and necessity of placing wellness as a foundational component into the personal and professional lives of each educator. This session/workshop explores the impact of educator wellness on professional practice and student learning outcomes, identifies actionable practices for participants to self-reflect on their current realities and individual needs, and shares practical routines directly related to the dimensions of physical, mental, emotional, and social wellness. Speaker Overview Dan Phelps serves as the principal of Winnebago Middle School in Winnebago, IL. He brings a wealth of experience to his role, having served as a health education and physical education teacher, where he taught personal training and strength and conditioning. He has also worked as an assistant principal and federal grant coordinator. Throughout his career, Dan has been deeply involved in promoting health and wellness within schools and districts, partnering with them to make it a central focus of the educational process. In his current position as principal, Dan is actively involved in implementing initiatives such as the PLC at Work® process and the RTI at WorkTM process. Additionally, he is working on establishing a comprehensive educator wellness framework for his school. Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education teacher education and a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Illinois State University. He furthered his education by earning a master’s degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University, and he is currently pursuing his doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies at the same institution, focusing his research on educator wellness and collective teacher efficacy.

Effective communication is a cornerstone of effective leadership.  This session led by retired OTHS # 203 Principal Rich Bickel will focus on helping administrators, and other leaders, create an effective, productive, and positive framework for engaging in difficult conversations.  Whether it be in person, on the phone, or through email, specific strategies and real-life examples will be shared to help increase confidence and lower stress while most effectively engaging with colleagues, parents, students, and others.  These practical strategies have been proven to foster effective communication, promote a positive school climate, and best of all can be implemented immediately. Calling all social workers, counselors, front office staff and those who will encounter homeless children and families! Come and learn some tricks and tips on how to support one of our most vulnerable populations, our homeless children and youth. You will leave with the knowledge on how to identify these students, how to support them with their basic needs and how to connect them with available McKinney-Vento resources. CEU's will be issued, registration closes 4-5 days prior to event date.

Join ISBE for an interactive professional learning workshop designed to delve into the purpose and intended applications of the IAR and ISA. This professional learning opportunity is tailored to support district and school teams as they unpack their Spring 2024 ELA/L and mathematics (IAR) and science (ISA) results to inform current instructional activities and offer insights into the resources available to help support interpretation. 

This is a hands-on workshop, crafted to help school leadership teams identify patterns and trends in student achievement, reflect on instructional practices, and translate those insights into actionable classroom activities. A suggested protocol for unpacking IAR and ISA results will be shared. Teams are encouraged to bring a fully charged device, the last two years of district- and/or school-level reports so that they can be supported through the unpacking process. 

 Those in attendance will get a sneak peak of the new enhancements for the Illinois Administration Platform for Spring 2025. In-depth training opportunities will be provided in January 2025 with Pearson Representatives also on site. LUNCH will be provided on site by Pearson!

This session is very limited with the number of spots available, if you are interested, register at your earliest convenience.  The Brown School at Washington University will be presenting this two-day training (October 22 8:30am-3:30pm & October 23 8:30am-3:00pm).  Attendees must attend both days, CEU credit will be issued for attending the full duration of the two-day training, failure to attend both days will result in a no-show invoice).  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children is a structured, evidence-based approach aimed at addressing emotional and behavioral issues.  It focuses on helping children understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.  A key component of CBT for children is the development of emotion regulation skills.  These skills include recognizing and labeling emotions, understanding the triggers for these emotions, and learning healthy coping strategies to manage intense feelings.  Techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and cognitive restructuring are commonly used to help children gain control over their emotional responses. By building these skills, children can improve their emotional resilience, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and enhance their overall well-being.
