A work permit can be obtained for children aged under 16 thru the St. Clair County Regional Office of Education. An appointment must be scheduled. Child Actor/Talent/Model
In 2020, a law passed that all children under 16 years of age represented by a licensed and bonded talent agency are mandated to open a Coogan Trust Account in order to obtain a work permit. The laws mandate a trust account for working child performers 16 years and under set aside 15% of the child actor’s gross income. Along with all the items listed above, this trust must be open to obtain the work permit.
To open a Coogan Trust Account, you typically need to bring:
- Social Security Card
- Birth Certificate
- Proof of Identity
- Best financial institution to contact is Actors Federal Credit Union. No local banks will open a Coogan Trust Account.
- Proof of this account being open must be presented.
