English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
Providing a Transitional Program of Instruction to St. Clair County English Language Learners in grades K – 12.

Classes

A.M. Program  8:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. (Doors open at 8:20 a.m.)

English Language Learners in grades 6 – 12

District arranged transportation picks students up at home and transports them to the St. Clair County ROE

Sheltered content classes offered in English as a Second Language, science, social studies, geography, civics and government, U.S. history, consumer education, or health.

Students take three classes per school year with classes counting toward graduation requirements.

 

P.M. Program  1:20 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

English Language Learners in grades  K – 5

English as a Second Language including reading, writing, speaking, and listening is taught

Students are picked up at their home district schools, brought to the ESL Program at the ROE and returned to their homes after school.

 

We will only accommodate 2:30 pm or 2:45 pm bus pickup times in the PM.

We are not responsible for any bussing arrangements.  Each school is responsible for  communicating and coordinating bussing arrangements.

English as a Second Language Program Schedule 2025-2026

First day for classes is Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

The ESL Program will NOT meet on the following days:

  • Monday, September 1, 2025 – Labor Day Holiday
  • Friday, October 10, 2025 – Fall Break
  • Monday, October 13, 2025 – Columbus Day
  • Thursday, October 31, 2025 – No p.m. classes
  • Tuesday, November 11, 2025- Veterans’ Day 
  • Wednesday, November 26, 2025 through Friday, November 28, 2025 – Thanksgiving Break.
  • Monday, December 22, 2025 – Christmas Break Begins.  Classes resume January 5, 2026
  • Monday, January 19, 2026 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Monday, February 16, 2026 – Presidents’ Day
  • Monday, March 2, 2026 – Casimir Pulaski Day
  • Wednesday, April 1, 2026 through Friday, April 3 2026 – Spring Break
  •  

*LAST DAY for ESL classes – Thursday, May 21, 2026 (Tentative)

* Additional days may be added to the calendar at a later date

NOTE:

If your student’s school is in session on these days, he or she should stay in the regular school the whole day. Students may need alternative bussing arrangements.

If your student’s school is not in session on these days, he or she should not come to ESL.
