English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
Providing a Transitional Program of Instruction to St. Clair County English Language Learners in grades K – 12.

Classes

A.M. Program  8:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. (Doors open at 8:20 a.m.)

English Language Learners in grades 6 – 12

District arranged transportation picks students up at home and transports them to the St. Clair County ROE

Sheltered content classes offered in English as a Second Language, science, social studies, geography, civics and government, U.S. history, consumer education, or health.

Students take three classes per school year with classes counting toward graduation requirements.

 

P.M. Program  1:20 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

English Language Learners in grades  K – 5

English as a Second Language including reading, writing, speaking, and listening is taught

Students are picked up at their home district schools, brought to the ESL Program at the ROE and returned to their homes after school.

English as a Second Language Program Schedule 2023-2024

First day for a.m. classes is Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
First day for p.m. classes is Wednesday August 21, 2024.

The ESL Program will NOT meet on the following days:

  • Monday, September 2, 2024 – Labor Day Holiday
  • Friday, October 11, 2024 – Fall Break
  • Monday, October 14, 2024 – Columbus Day
  • Thursday, October 31, 2024 – No p.m. classes
  • Monday, November 4, 2024 – Non-attendance Day
  • Tuesday, November 5, 2024 – Election Day Polling Place
  • Mondaay, November 11, 2024- Veterans’ Day 
  • Wednesday, November 27, 2024 through Friday, November 29, 2024 – Thanksgiving Break.
  • Monday, December 23, 2024 – Christmas Break Begins.  Classes resume January 7, 2025
  • Monday, January 6, 2025 – Teacher’s Institute
  • Monday, January 20, 2025 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Friday, February 14, 2025 – No p.m. classes
  • Monday, February 17, 2025 – Presidents’ Day
  • Friday, March 7, 2025 – Non-Attendance Day
  • Monday, April 14, 2025 through Friday, April 18 2025 – Spring Break
  • Monday, April 21, 2025 – Teacher Institute

*LAST DAY for ESL classes – Monday, May 23, 2025

* Additional days may be added to the calendar at a later date

NOTE:

If your student’s school is in session on these days, he or she should stay in the regular school the whole day. Students may need alternative bussing arrangements.

If your student’s school is not in session on these days, he or she should not come to ESL.
