English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
Providing a Transitional Program of Instruction to St. Clair County English Language Learners in grades K – 12.

Classes

A.M. Program  8:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. (Doors open at 8:20 a.m.)

English Language Learners in grades 9 – 12

District arranged transportation picks students up at home and transports them to the St. Clair County ROE

Sheltered content classes offered in English as a Second Language, science, social studies, geography, civics and government, U.S. history, consumer education, or health.

Students take three classes per school year with classes counting toward graduation requirements.

 

P.M. Program  1:20 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

English Language Learners in grades  K – 8

English as a Second Language including reading, writing, speaking, and listening is taught

Students are picked up at their home district schools, brought to the ESL Program at the ROE and returned to their homes after school.

English as a Second Language Program Schedule 2023-2024

First day for a.m. classes is Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
First day for p.m. classes is Wednesday August 23, 2023.

The ESL Program will NOT meet on the following days:

  • Monday, September 4, 2023 – Labor Day Holiday
  • Monday, October 6, 2023 – Non-Attendance Day
  • Monday, October 9, 20232 – Columbus Day
  • Friday, October 20, 2023 – Non-Attendance Day
  • (p.m classes only) Tuesday, October 31, 2023 – No p.m. classes
  • Tuesday, November 7, 2023 – Election Day Polling Place
  • Friday, November 10, 20223- Veterans’ Day 
  • Wednesday, November 22, 2023 through Friday, November 24, 2023 – Thanksgiving Break.
  • Wednesday, December 20, 2023 – Christmas Break Begins.  Classes resume January 3, 2024
  • Tuesday, January 2, 2024 – Teacher’s Institute
  • Monday, January 15, 2024 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • (p.m. classes only)Wednesday, February 14, 2024 – No p.m. classes
  • Monday, February 19, 2024 – Presidents’ Day
  • Friday, March 1, 2024 – Non-Attendance Day
  • Monday, March 25, 2024 through Monday, April 1, 2024 – Spring Break
  • Monday, April 19, 2024 – Teacher Institute

NOTE:

If your student’s school is in session on these days, he or she should stay in the regular school the whole day. Students may need alternative bussing arrangements.

If your student’s school is not in session on these days, he or she should not come to ESL.
