This workshop will be held at Mascoutah School District # 19 (421 West Harnett St. Mascoutah, IL 62258 Decodable Texts: What are they? Why do we use them? How do we use them? Are they the only resource we should use? Where do I find decodable texts and how do I evaluate them? Structured vs Balanced Literacy, Orton-Gillingham methods of Phonics, and decodable texts are buzz words heard all around the education community, but how do we best implement these ideas into our daily practice? The direct connection between what students learn phonetically and what they read is key to building strong readers. In this session, we will explore what decodable texts are, why and how we use them, and how to evaluate and choose appropriate texts. This session will provide an adaptable routine of implementing decodable text in classrooms. And in return, teachers will leave with the knowledge and confidence to start these routines and to create an immediate impact on student learning.
