This Administrator Academy is free for all to attend. Academy credit or professional development hours can be issued. Note this academy will be held at the Center for Academic & Vocational Excellence ("CAVE") 7645 Magna Drive, Suite 1 Belleville, IL 62223. Breakfast 8:00-9:00am, Academy 9:00am-12:00pm.
This course provides information to school administrators on standards for the conduct, ethics and rights of school personnel. This course discusses the various standards an administrator needs to be aware of in the everyday course of doing their job; including laws, regulations, and mandates for the management of school personnel. If attendees are wanting Academy Credit, administrators must watch 2 of the 4 videos provided and complete and submit the provided application/dissemination on or before Monday, August 11 at 12:00pm. If attendees are wanting PD credit an evaluation must be completed.
Walk-ins will only be able to earn pd credit.

Deepening K-12 NGSS Implementation: Evaluating Resources for Alignment”
St. Clair ROE ILThis workshop is an extension of the April 29 workshop (Navigating the K-12 Illinois Standards for Science: A Deep Dive into NGSS Principles with Dr. Jeff Spencer, Science Instructional Coach, ROE # 17, Bloomington.
In this second meeting, participants will build off of material covered in the first NGSS training, offered in Spring 2025. This session will include a model activity to ground discussion on considering how to evaluate resources based on a nationally-recognized, peer-reviewed rubric to determine alignment with the NGSS. This session will establish a framework where participants can assess and become a critical consumer of science resources to help meet the vision of the NGSS.
In this workshop, participants will:

Be introduced to a rubric that considers NGSS alignment

Evaluate a model activity using the rubric

Understand if teaching or curricula are aligned to the current standards.

Consider ways to shift your current teaching to better align with the NGSS

John is an International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP) Certified Trainer and has worked in education for over 13 years as an administrator and educator in a high-risk, low-income district for more than 10 years.
The term Restorative Practices has taken on many forms over the years and some forms have placed a bad taste in the mouth of its recipient. Our job as a school administrator is to help set the tone for a successful culture in the building. One way we can do this is by creating a Restorative environment for all. But "how" is the big question. Let's explore what a Restorative Culture can mean and what it takes to get it going in your K-12 school community.

Effective Questioning Techniques

This is a free workshop on behalf of the Illinois Masonic Foundation. Statistics show the average teacher asks between 300-400 questions per day. Utilizing effective questioning is a key aspect of the teaching and learning process, as the kinds of questions we ask determine the level of thinking we develop. It is also a key tool in assessment when checking for pupil understanding and keeping them engaged. To have the desired effect, these questions need to be well-considered and challenging. Utilizing effective questioning in the classroom creates opportunities for students to analyze their own thinking, is crucial to opening conversations, inspires deeper intellectual thought, and promotes student-to-student interaction. One Size Does Not Fit All – Differentiating Instruction at the Elementary Level

This is a free workshop on behalf of the Illinois Masonic Foundation. How is it possible for teachers to divide their limited time, resources, and efforts to effectively instruct all of their students? Although much has changed in schools over the past few years, the power of differentiated instruction has remained the same. There is no secret formula or recipe that works for all learners at all times. With that in mind, many differentiated instructional strategies will be shared in this session as well as insightful guidance on what to differentiate, how to differentiate, and how to bring differentiation into your classroom.
McKinney-Vento Act Homeless Liaison and Front Office Staff Training
St Clair ROE ILAnnually, all district homeless liaisons are required to attend a refresher training on the McKinney Vento Act and the duties of the district homeless liaisons. This training satisfies that compliance requirement. Topics will include review of the Mckinney-Vento Act, identification and eligibility, what to look for in existing students, student rights, identification of barriers and how to remove those barriers, school of origin, transportation, set aside funds and allowable costs, dispute process, migrant education, resources, forms, and a question/answer period.

In addition, Identification of homeless continues to be a challenge for all of us, and we know the critical role front office staff play in this process. As such, I am extending an invitation for each of you to bring one member of your front office staff from each building to the training. Please take advantage of this.
