Position Title: English As A Second Language (ESL) Teacher

Location: O’Fallon Township High School

Reports to: Director of Special Services

FLSA Class: Exempt

Contract: 180 Day Contract

Compensation for Teaching Positions are based on Appendix “A” of the agreement between the Board of Education, O’Fallon Township High School District #203 and the O’Fallon Federation of Teachers, O’Fallon, Illinois 62269 (Collective Bargaining Agreement). This position is eligible for health/dental/vision/life insurance, paid-time off, and tuition assistance.  This position participates in the Teachers Retirement System (TRS).  More information on salary and benefits can be found at www.oths.us.

SUMMARY

The primary goal of the ESL teacher is to ensure that Els are able to reach a proficient achievement level on state tests, succeed in English-led classrooms, and fully participate in society.  The ESL teacher will support EL students through direction and monitored instruction, and by providing supports to teachers of EL students.  The teacher will be involved in varied activities to include curriculum implementation, lesson planning, vocabulary instruction, scaffolding strategies, assessment and technology integration through modeling, co-teaching and guided implementation.  The teachers will serve as a conduit from research and training to implementation in the classroom.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

·         Valid Illinois Professional Teaching license with English as a New Language (ENL) endorsement.

·         Previous experience working with EL students preferred.

·         Strong content knowledge in EL instruction.

Performance responsibilities for student learning to include:

·         Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards.

·         Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the district’s instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets.

·         Address students on a one-on-one basis following a schedule.

·         Develop non-verbal ways to student to demonstrate their knowledge.

·         Develop and deliver ESL lessons aligned with curriculum standards and student proficiency levels

·         Assess students’ English language proficiency and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs

·         Create a positive, inclusive, and motivating classroom environment

·         Integrate language development activities with real-life communication scenarios

·         Use technology, multimedia, and authentic materials to enhance learning

·         Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students and parents (if applicable)

·         Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and assessments

·         Collaborate with other educators and staff to support student success

·         Participate in professional development, training, and school activities

Preferred Skills:

Experience teaching students of high school age.
Familiarity with online teaching tools (Canvas).
Ability to differentiate instruction for multi-level classes
Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and practices
