Position: Junior High Assistant Band Director

Job Summary: O’Fallon School District 90 is seeking a passionate and dedicated Junior High Assistant Band Director to support the continued excellence of the D90 Bands Program. This position will assist in delivering high-quality music instruction, recruiting and developing young musicians, and collaborating with the band team to maintain a thriving, award-winning program. The ideal candidate will be energetic, collaborative, and committed to student growth and performance.

Program Description:

The District 90 Bands serve over 400 students in grades 5–8 and have established a tradition of musical excellence. The program includes:

5th Grade before-school, instrument-specific beginner classes
Curricular band classes for 6th–8th grade students at Carriel and Fulton Junior High Schools (6 total classes)
Symphonic Winds – D90 Honor Band (extra-curricular)
D90 Jazz Band (extra-curricular)
Robust private lesson program
Collaborative Fine Arts team including Choir, Art, and Tech
Program Highlights:

Performances at the Illinois Music Education Conference (2016, 2020, 2025)
Participation in the University of Illinois Super State Band Festival annually since 2016
Appearance at the 2023 Music for All National Concert Band Festival
2024 National Band Association Citation of Excellence
Regular student participation in ILMEA District 6 Honor Concert Band, Jazz Band, and All-Illinois Junior Band
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements:

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a Music Endorsement (K-12 or applicable)
Strong instrumental music background
Effective classroom management and communication skills
Ability to teach both beginning and advanced band students in individual and group settings
Experience with performance preparation and contest coordination preferred
Commitment to collaboration and teamwork with students, staff, and parents

Reports to: Band Director/Building Principal

Responsibilities:

Assist with teaching at D90 Bands Summer Band Camp
Support the recruitment of new band students through informational meetings for students and parents regarding instrument selection and rental
Provide music instruction to large groups of beginning band students
Collaborate with the D90 Band Team on instructional and administrative duties
Co-teach curricular band classes at Carriel and Fulton Junior High Schools
Direct or assist with Jazz Band rehearsals and performances
Lead organizational efforts for the annual District 90 Solo & Ensemble Contest
Assist with program-wide fundraising activities
Prepare students for concerts and public performances throughout the school year
