Job Title: Special Education Teacher
Reports To:  Building Principal and Special Education Director
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Days:  183

Qualifications:Illinois Professional Educator License with Learning Behavioral Specialist endorsement
Experience with students of special needs preferred
Essential Skills:Highly dependable with excellent communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with other professional staff members, maintaining a positive working relationship and, when assigned, delivering and supporting co-teaching instruction within the classroom.
Understands and demonstrates knowledge of research based methodologies for educating students with special education needs, particularly with social, emotional, and behavioral supports.
Ability to recognize the individual needs of students through assessment and instruction, and develop an appropriate plan for progress to maximize learning.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration regarding the needs and progress of assigned students.
Valid driver’s license or access to reliable transportation to work.

Create meaningful learning experiences to address knowledge and skills within the curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Provides instruction to special education students, empowering them to meet their individual academic and career goals.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to fit student needs.
Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning.
Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school’s standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior.
Assume case management responsibilities for special education students.
Provide consultation to regular education teachers and administrators.
Engage in continuing education and professional development activities in order to stay informed about the most recent issues pertinent to the field.
Ability to use computer network systems, software applications, assistive technology, as needed.
Consult with the Director of Special Education, building administration, teachers, parents, colleagues, and outside professionals, as needed.
Other duties assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or Building Administration.
