JOB SUMMARY
The Mascoutah High School Agriculture Teacher is responsible for instructing students in various agricultural subjects, emphasizing practical skills and knowledge applicable to agricultural sciences. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive curriculum, overseeing hands-on activities in agricultural settings, promoting safety protocols, and fostering student engagement. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills in agriculture and related fields, along with teaching experience and a dedication to student success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Agricultural Education, Agronomy, Animal Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Valid teaching certification/license in Agricultural Education, Career and Technical Education (CTE), or a relevant subject area, with endorsements or certifications in agriculture preferred.
Experience in agricultural sciences, farming, agribusiness, or related fields, with proficiency in agricultural techniques, technologies, and practices preferred.
Previous teaching experience at the high school level, particularly in vocational or technical education settings, with a demonstrated ability to engage and motivate students.
Strong instructional skills, including effective communication, demonstration, and facilitation of hands-on learning activities in agricultural settings.
Knowledge of instructional technology tools and software applications relevant to agricultural education, such as agricultural software, GIS applications, and multimedia resources.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills, with a commitment to promoting safety, diversity, and equity in agricultural education.
Dedication to ongoing professional development, lifelong learning, and continuous improvement in teaching practices and subject matter expertise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Develop and implement a dynamic curriculum for agricultural courses, including topics such as plant science, animal science, agricultural mechanics, and agribusiness, aligned with state standards and educational objectives.
Design lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, integrating real-world applications and industry standards in agriculture.
Instruct students on various agricultural practices, techniques, and technologies relevant to modern farming and agribusiness.
Demonstrate proper agricultural techniques, safety procedures, and equipment operation, emphasizing best practices and adherence to safety regulations.
Supervise students during hands-on projects and practical exercises, providing guidance, feedback, and support to promote skill development and safety awareness in agricultural settings.
Manage and maintain agricultural facilities, including tools, machinery, materials, and safety equipment, ensuring proper usage, maintenance, and organization.
Cultivate a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in the context of agriculture.
Implement strategies to engage students in agricultural sciences through interactive and experiential learning opportunities.
Assess student performance through various methods, such as tests, projects, demonstrations, and portfolio reviews, providing constructive feedback to facilitate student growth and achievement.
Monitor student progress, identify areas for improvement or enrichment, and communicate effectively with parents/guardians and colleagues to support student success in agricultural education.
Collaborate with other faculty members, administrators, industry professionals, and community partners to enhance the agricultural education program, explore career pathways, and facilitate experiential learning opportunities for students.
Stay informed about advancements in agricultural technology, farming practices, safety regulations, and educational trends through professional development activities, workshops, and networking opportunities.
Ensure compliance with school policies, district guidelines, and industry standards related to agricultural education, including the maintenance of necessary certifications and credentials.
Uphold professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards in all interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and community members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

–  Knowledge of instructional principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students.
–  Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
–  Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
–  Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
–  Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
