This session is very limited with the number of spots available, if you are interested, register at your earliest convenience.  The Brown School at Washington University will be presenting this two-day training (October 22 8:30am-3:30pm & October 23 8:30am-3:00pm).  Attendees must attend both days, CEU credit will be issued for attending the full duration of the two-day training, failure to attend both days will result in a no-show invoice).  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children is a structured, evidence-based approach aimed at addressing emotional and behavioral issues.  It focuses on helping children understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.  A key component of CBT for children is the development of emotion regulation skills.  These skills include recognizing and labeling emotions, understanding the triggers for these emotions, and learning healthy coping strategies to manage intense feelings.  Techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and cognitive restructuring are commonly used to help children gain control over their emotional responses. By building these skills, children can improve their emotional resilience, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and enhance their overall well-being. Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is a public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care. WHAT WILL PARTICIPANTS LEARN? The course teaches participants the risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among adolescents, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, AD/HD, disruptive behavior disorders, and substance use disorder. Participants learn to support a youth developing signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in an emotional crisis by applying a core five-step action plan: • Assess for risk of suicide or harm • Listen nonjudgmentally • Give reassurance and information • Encourage appropriate professional help • Encourage self-help and other support strategies WHO SHOULD TAKE THE COURSE? K-12 Youth Drug Trends – What Parents & Educators Need to Know

This is a free workshop provided by Tracy Hancock (Community Outreach Specialist) from Chestnut Health for administrators, social workers, school counselors, educators and related support personnel. The first portion of this workshop will focus on a breakdown of trends in substance use by youth both at the national level and locally. Madison and St. Clair County data is included.  Substances including alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, prescription drugs, and opioids are covered in addition to myths and misconceptions surrounding the use of NARCAN. The second portion will provide a detailed view of e-cigarettes, their effects and goes a step further in explaining how to recognize signs of use in youth. We will also explore how to talk to youth about substance use and how to address use if they are already a current user.  Strategies for parental involvement and steps for schools and communities to partnership will also be shared.
