Understanding Yourself: The Foundation of Effective Leadership

During this Breakaway session, we will explore the significance of self-awareness in fostering effective teamwork and empathy towards others (adults and students). K-12 Youth Drug Trends – What Parents & Educators Need to Know

This is a free workshop provided by Tracy Hancock (Community Outreach Specialist) from Chestnut Health for administrators, social workers, school counselors, educators and related support personnel. The first portion of this workshop will focus on a breakdown of trends in substance use by youth both at the national level and locally. Madison and St. Clair County data is included.  Substances including alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, prescription drugs, and opioids are covered in addition to myths and misconceptions surrounding the use of NARCAN. The second portion will provide a detailed view of e-cigarettes, their effects and goes a step further in explaining how to recognize signs of use in youth. We will also explore how to talk to youth about substance use and how to address use if they are already a current user.  Strategies for parental involvement and steps for schools and communities to partnership will also be shared. Effective Writing Instructional Strategies for Secondary Students (6-12): Recommendations from the What Works Clearinghouse (Virtual)

This session is free thanks to the IL SLDS Project.  A virtual link will be sent out prior to the event date.  The What Works Clearinghouse screened over 3500 studies on grades 6-12 writing instruction and has developed instructional recommendations based on the rigorous research criteria.  In this virtual session, participants will obtain evidence-based recommendations that will be broken down with specific examples and strategies that can be used in your classroom the very next day.   Registration closes 4-5 days prior to the event unless tickets are sold out.

K-12 School Finance: Confidence & Accuracy

Join Sarah Healy, ISBE Regional Financial Consultant for School Business Services as she leads this free informative session for Illinois school district bookkeepers.  This workshop will provide fundamental knowledge and skills that include a Basic Bookkeeper Guide which outlines daily, weekly, and monthly tasks and why these are important for financial purposes. More knowledge and information including Illinois Accounting Rules - Part 100, Fund Transfers, Cash Flows and Workbook Review, State Budget Form, Annual Statement of Affairs (ASA), Grant Expenditure Reporting and Due Dates, and FRIS System and Reporting. Attendees can bring items such as (but not limited to) budget forms, ASA forms, prior year or current year AFR, ledgers from their accounting system, or any additional relevant documents.
