Applying the Science of Reading (K-8)

August 1, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

The purpose of this session is to provide K-8 educators with an overview of the science of reading from a practical perspective. To begin, we will define the science of reading, discuss the processes involved with learning to read, and highlight practices not aligned with the science of reading. Next, we will demystify and unlock the English language by covering the six English syllable types, high-frequency word instruction, patterns for decoding multi-syllabic words, and more. Throughout the session, we will emphasize classroom application by participating in a multi-sensory dictation practice and transfer of skills to connected text. Resources will be provided to support participants as they apply the content of the session into their classrooms.

Participants will need to bring a fully charged device to this session as resources will be shared electronically and discussed during this session.

Registration closes 4-5 days prior to the event unless tickets are sold out.
