Requirements for becoming a bus driver in St. Clair County:

INITIAL CLASS

  • New Bus Drivers are required to attend an initial training course that is a minimum of eight (8) hours of instruction time, plus the quiz/exam. (This does not include registration, breaks and the quiz/exam.)
  • Pre-register with the Regional Office of Education ($10.00 fee required) here: https://sccroe50.org/bus-driver-training-2/
  • Pre-registration is a requirement.  No walk-ins will be allowed.
  • Must be employed by a Bus company or School District

REFRESHER CLASS

  • Bus Drivers are required to take a refresher course each year to keep their permit current
  • Each refresher class is a minimum of two (2) hours of instruction time. (This does not include breaks and registration.)
  • Drivers must pre-register with the Regional Office of Education ($10.00 fee required) here: https://sccroe50.org/bus-driver-training-2/
  • Pre-registration is a requirement.  No walk-ins will be allowed.
  • Training is usually given each month. There is no set schedule.

If a driver does not arrive on time or stay for the entire class, they do not receive credit for attending and must register to attend another class at a later date.

OUT OF COUNTY

  • Bus Drivers wishing to test in St. Clair County must register with the county in which they are employed.
