This same session will be presented at the K-12 Principal Breakaway on 1.17.23
There is an elusive force in school organizations that parents, teachers, and students can sense.
The term culture provides an accurate way for school leaders to understand an organization’s
unwritten rules, traditions, norms, and expectations. An organization’s culture has been
proven as a factor in cultivating high academic achievement, teacher satisfaction and student
attitudes.
Since the complexity of problems in our schools today are quite complicated, it would be
important to consider how to build a culture to solve those issues and develop a stable, high
performing organization. Transformative thinking requires groups of people to move to new
principles and paradigms.
With an applied perspective from her educational practice, Consultant, Dr. Carol Hall-Whitter
will share elements of staff development that will motivate teachers and students and create a
place of cohesion, commitment, and interactions among teachers.
This session will:
Demonstrate how culture fosters school effectiveness and productivity
Look at the organizational culture of well-known successful businesses
Explore innovative, transformative methods for teacher collaboration in a learning
organization
Identify those PD activities that promote collaborative teaching and learning and build a
sense of efficacy in staff.
Explore collegiality to create a sense of community in a school setting
Explore distributed leadership as an element of school excellence
Upon the conclusion of this session, we will be provided a guided tour of East St. Louis High School. Thank you District # 189!
