Every day our interactions are based on lots of different bits of information. Our behaviors are the communication of those bits of information. Not just our behaviors, but the behaviors of every person with whom we interact. Every behavior, whether wanted or unwanted, positive or negative, is communicating something. How we respond to that communication will determine the outcome of the conversation. While the executive functioning skills of inhibition, impulse control, working memory, social emotional skills and attention are more developed at this age, there is still much growth happening. There are many other factors at play at this age that also must be taken into consideration when looking at and understanding behavior. This professional development will teach you how to recognize your own communication as well as your middle school students. Participants will learn ways to improve their mental health and make the classroom environment a place where every student and adult feels welcome and safe which will in turn create more wanted behaviors from your students.
