SECURITY WORKER

Objective/Purpose:  The job of Security Worker is done for the purpose/s of maintaining safe and orderly educational environment and providing for the safety and welfare of students, employees and visitors.

Training, Education, & Qualifications:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be able to complete on-line computerized training
Must have a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
Must be able understand and follow multi-step oral and written instructions
Must be able to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios
Must maintain general knowledge of District policy, procedure, state law, and juvenile codes related to high school students and public school facilities
Must be able to operate District security systems; including strong computer skills
Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
Must be able to successfully work with and supervise students
Preferred experience in security or similar professions

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands:   While performing the duties of this classification, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or new skills; work under deadlines with constant interruptions; and interact with District staff, other organizations and the public. The employee is occasionally required to deal with dissatisfied or quarrelsome individuals.

Essential Responsibilities:  Security Workers are expected to assume the role of safety provider for students, employees and the public.  The omission of any specific duty does not exclude the duties from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the Security classification.Patrol and monitor hallways, stairwells, toilet facilities, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff and the security of the facility.
Ensure a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on-time arrival to class and to assigned locations.
Assist with supervision in the breakfast and lunch periods and with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students.
Assist the professional staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations.
Monitor energy management systems program if directed.
Assist in locker searches for weapons/drugs/contraband as directed by the administration.
Maintain the orderly flow of automobile and/or bus traffic in the parking lots; Issues warnings for parking infractions.
Encourage and ensure that students, employees and visitors wear identification badges; Photograph students, employees, etc. for photo IDS and print ID badges as needed.
Manage visitor check in, assist visitors with directions, and secure proper visitor identification and background check.
Monitor security cameras; provide camera photos and video clips as requested by the administration; inform administration of any concerns as observed watching the cameras.
Challenge unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits.
Report any discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to the administration.
Notify the building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations pursuant to safety procedures and policy.
Notify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids.
Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs.
Upkeep campus marquee messages as directed by the administration.
Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model.
Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel and outside agencies associated with the school.
Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.
On days of non-student attendance, assume duties as assigned under the Custodial classification.
Assist Custodians, Maintenance workers, Ground workers, and other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Perform other job duties as assigned for the purpose of supporting the educational mission of the school district.

General Responsibilities: Observe safe work practices, including maintaining storage areas in safe condition.
Supervise students in cafeterias, hallways, and emergency situations, and communicate issues to the administration.
Review email daily.
Report any unauthorized persons and/or security concerns.
Keep Director of Facilities and/or the administration informed about ongoing activities/emerging issues.
Document all injuries that require treatment.
Take the initiative to perform routine responsibilities independently.
Assist other staff as needed to deal with unexpected or urgent situations.
Monitor facility conditions. Report suspected problems and/or unsafe conditions (e.g., unusual odors, discolorations, noises, leaks, etc.).
Comply with safety and environmental regulations. Ensure that supplies are labeled and stored safely.
Complete/Participate in occupational safety and health training programs as directed.
Complete/Participate in District training programs and initiatives as directed.
Be punctual and dependable with all aspects of work duties.
Display a positive attitude toward students, employees, and the public.

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this classification. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  The employee may occasionally work in extreme outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and may work on slippery and uneven surfaces. The employee may be exposed to risk of injury in the security duties of the position.  During the summer months when students are not in session, the security position will assume some of the responsibilities of the custodial, grounds, and maintenance classifications.  The noise level is frequently loud.  Some positions may be subject to weekend and/or rotating shifts and 24-hour call-out.

Rate of Pay: $17.75/hour
