No, it isn’t in your imagination that students seem more anxious today than in the past.  Indeed, they are more anxious and worried, and less independent and capable of taking in stride small setbacks.  How do we respond to this fretful generation?  This presentation, facilitated by Amy Maus, MSW, LCSW from West County Psychological Associates, will provide an understanding of what anxiety actually is, red flags in anxious students, why it’s exploding today among our youth, and how teachers and other school professionals can respond in ways that actually help.  The second half of the morning will be spent discussing school anxiety and avoidance/refusal in particular. The majority of children and adolescents who attempt suicide have a significant mental health disorder, usually depression. Depression and suicidal feelings are treatable mental disorders. Teachers and administrators should always err on the side of caution and safety. Come join us to learn more about suicide and depression, ways to identify it, how to help, and develop a plan to help guide your students and staff through depression, suicide, and SEL. Administrators attending this event can earn pd hours OR academy credit. 30 Second Feedback is an instructional practice for providing growth evoking, non-evaluative feedback and coaching to teachers. 30 second feedback delivers a short, but meaningful, positive reinforcement based on a quick classroom visit. This protocol's effectiveness is based on the observer's ability to be specific in describing the short episode of teaching and the subsequent positive learning effect.  This quick and powerful instructional tool helps the administrator gain some quick instructional "wins" by depositing positive nuggets of specific observable powerful moments of great teaching practices.  These deposits add up to create powerful impact when coupled with the regular teacher evaluation and walkthrough protocol and processes. Participants will learn how to collect diagnostic data on foundational reading skills. you will learn how to use the data to design and implement intervention sessions grounded in the science of reading.  Participants will leave with assessment resources, an intervention plan to address students’ individual needs and tools for implementing your intervention plans.  This session is designed for special educators, reading interventionists, reading coaches, RtI coordinators, and general educators working with at-risk students for a reading disability or identified as needing assistance with foundational reading skills. This event is free thanks to an SEL Grant.  Join Dr. Catherine Daus, SIUE Professor and Program Director, in this session titled, 'Stress & Coping with Workplace Attitudes'. As Instructional Coaches many times you are the frontline person that intercepts various workplace drama or complaints.  Your jobs can be stressful; however, your role often serves as a way to ease the stress of those you support.  This session will cover the basics of stress response and its role in the workplace along with identifying stressors.  Additionally, we will examine the importance of workplace attitudes, including job satisfaction/morale, organizational commitment and work engagement. We will cover several healthy coping strategies which can be easily implemented with work life. Prior to this session you will be asked to fill out a few self-report measures regarding workplace personality and workplace stressors which will be used as a part for reflection. Join your fellow Instructional Coaches for the last symposium of the 2024-2025 school year! This event is a two-part symposium to support Instructional Coaches and the various roles encountered in the daily school setting. Coaches should bring a fully charged device and early drafts of a Coaching Model Handbook. The first session will be facilitated by Joe Cipfl, Computer Science Director for ROE # 50: Transformative Coaching: Integrating AI to Innovate Teaching and Learning
In today's rapidly evolving educational landscape, instructional coaches play a critical role in guiding teachers toward effective and innovative practices. This workshop will empower you to harness the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to support teachers in creating dynamic and engaging content that aligns with learning standards and diverse student needs. You will explore AI-powered tools for developing adaptable instructional strategies, enhancing curriculum materials, and meeting the varied learning styles in classrooms. From generating interactive lessons to creating personalized assessments, we will demonstrate practical ways AI can elevate content creation and curriculum delivery. Walk away with actionable insights on integrating AI into your coaching practices to inspire teachers and improve student outcomes across all grade levels.
Coaches should plan to bring a lunch as 35 minutes will be provided upon the conclusion of the first session.
The second session will allow district coaches to share the progress made thus far on updates and drafts to a Coaching Model Handbook/Playbook.  Time will be provided for each district to share out their current plan, its challenges, resources and details for the future additions and rollout.  Questions and collaboration will be afforded by other attending coaches in addition to discussions regarding end of the year coaching objectives and program evaluations.

Attributes of Dyscalculia/Fact Fluency K-12 (Virtual)

This free virtual event is thanks to the IL SLDS Project.  Basic attributes of students at all ages with specific learning disabilities in math will be addressed.  The presentation will include brief ideas to help with the screening process for at risk students.
