SUMMARY:Building Thinking Classrooms Book Study 
DESCRIPTION:Join Stacie Mayberry (Belleville # 118 Math Instructional Coach) in this four-session book study designed to support educators in exploring and implementing the key ideas from Building Thinking Classrooms. Each session focuses on one of the four toolkits outlined in the book\, providing participants with the opportunity to engage in discussion\, reflect on current practices\, and apply new strategies directly to their classrooms. Through collaborative activities and practical takeaways\, teachers will deepen their understanding of how to create learning environments that promote student thinking\, engagement\, and problem-solving. Participants will be required to attend all sessions\, participate in discussion\, and complete a brief reflection after each session.  \nSession 1 will be a 3 hour\, in-person session on July 28 from 9am-12pm at the District 118 PD building at 105 W A Street\, Belleville. Participants will need to read chapters 1-3\, and 12 prior to attending.  \nSession 2 will be a virtual 1 hour session on September 15th from 4:00pm-5:00pm. Participants will be required to read chapters 4-6 and 8-9.  \nSession 3 will be a virtual 1 hour session on October 6th from 4:00-5:00pm. Participants will be required to read chapters 7\,10 and 11.  \nSession 4 will be a virtual 1 hour session on October 27th from 4:00pm-5:00pm. Comprehension is based on skill-building strategies that encourage purpose and engagement; as a result\, educators can effectively teach those literacy skills to support developing students as they learn to read\, write\, and think critically. In this presentation\, Peg will offer an overview of the seven essential literacy skills where educators will discover how to: expand their teaching methods to include literacy skills\, introduce literacy into daily lesson planning\, embed reading comprehension into any subject area\, and scaffold instruction using literacy strategies to boost subject-area comprehension. This engaging\, interactive session will be facilitated by Peg Grafwallner\, M.Ed (Instructional Coach\, Reading Specialist\, Author\, National Presenter) www.peggrafwallner.com \n\nPeg Grafwallner\, M.Ed.\, is an Instructional Coach/Reading Specialist in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin\, with nearly 30 years of experience. Registrants will receive handouts and detailed instructions for the pre-work at least one week prior to the workshop.  \nParticipants will need to bring a fully charged laptop to this academy.  Dr. Gary Kelly will be facilitating this session as attendees will synthesize the School Leader Paradigm to understand the personal intelligences\, knowledge\, and skills necessary for school leaders to effectively lead a learning organization.  Participants will evaluate the research base to communicate the impact that effective school leaders have on a learning organization; analyze the School Leader Evaluation Plan to discern how the process grows school leaders’ personal intelligences and leadership skills that actualize school improvement and student growth goals; and critique Professional Practice and Student Growth Cycles of Inquiry to assess the approaches of each to a school’s Problems of Practice. \nThe Illinois Performance Evaluation Advisory Council (PEAC) selected the School Leader Evaluation Plan as the state’s new default principal and assistant principal evaluation plan beginning July 1\, 2024. Developed by the Illinois Principals Association in collaboration with 13 other state principals’ associations from across the United States\, the School Leader Evaluation Plan (based on the School Leader Paradigm) was developed to assist school districts with the implementation of a school leader evaluation system that is relevant and useful. While Illinois school districts have the opportunity to choose whether to adopt the School Leader Evaluation Plan to evaluate their principals and assistant principals\, the state-required principal and assistant principal evaluator training has been rewritten and will focus on the School Leader Evaluation Plan. \nStarting on July 1\, 2024\, this two-day\, in-person academy (AA#4050) will serve as the official training for educators seeking initial training qualification or retraining to be legally qualified to conduct evaluations of principals and assistant principals. The previous principal evaluator training (#2000\, #1865\, and #3000) will be discontinued as of June 30\, 2024. \nRegistration closes September 1 at 10:00am. SUMMARY:The Writing Revolution 2.0 Book Study (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, Sept. 14\, Sept. 21\, Sept. 28 & Oct. 5 – 4:00-5:00 PM \nState standards require teachers at nearly all grade levels to ensure that students learn to write narratives\, informational\, and argumentative/opinion pieces.  The standards\, however\, don’t explain how to reach those goals. K-12 teachers and students need a roadmap\, and that’s just what The Writing Revolution (TWR)—also known as The Hochman Method—provides.  This 2024 update to the 2017 original discusses deliberate practice of specific techniques (including some connections to grammar too).  The Writing Revolution’s method enables educators to teach writing skills and content simultaneously. There’s no separate writing class. Teachers of all subjects adapt the strategies and activities to preexisting curriculum and weave them into their content instruction.  Join Jennifer Jacknewitz\, Belleville #118 Literacy Instructional Coach\, who will facilitate virtual meetings to discuss what we have learned.   \nWho should attend?  General and special education teachers of all subjects and instructional coaches.  \nParticipants must attend all 4 sessions and complete the required reflections and activities to earn the full 12 pd hours; partial pd hours will not be issued.  If you are not able to attend all 4 sessions\, please do not register.  Attendees will have to purchase a copy of the book independently; however\, the ROE will be raffling off several free copies. In addition we will focus on assessing and building a culture for supporting staff wellness while utilizing the core components of a multi-tiered system of support. SUMMARY:AA # 1801 Evaluator Retraining: Gathering Evidence During Observations & Conferencing Using the Danielson Model
DESCRIPTION: \nPD Co-op Member District $185.00\, Non PD Co-op District $200.00 (lunch included on site) This course will allow participants to learn effective skills and strategies for using Charlotte Danielson’s Instructional Framework in an evaluation setting in order to more effectively: 1. Identify evidence at the component level during formal and informal observations; 2. Use evidence\, with minimal bias\, to effectively rate staff on the levels of performance for each component in domains 2 and 3; 3. Increase inter-rater reliability in all phases of the evaluation process; 4. Acquire strategies to support effective collaborative conferencing around formal and informal observations; and 5. Learn techniques\, strategies\, and protocols to use when conferencing with staff to promote improvement in instructional practice. Attendees will need to bring a fully charged device to this academy.  The application/dissemination must be submitted prior to departure on 10.22.26. SUMMARY:A Deep Dive into Section 504: Developing a Defensible Plan
DESCRIPTION:This session will take a deep dive into the identification\, eligibility\, and legal factors in maintaining compliance with Section 504 in the school environment. Critical issues and practices will be outlined as it pertains to avoiding discrimination and developing Section 504 Plans that are comprehensive and appropriate.\nDr. Sepiol has had a variety of careers in education\, including serving as a special education teacher\, building principal\, assistant director in a special education cooperative\, legal counsel for parents in special education matters\, due process hearing officer\, and legal counsel for school districts throughout the state of Illinois. Dr. Sepiol is a nationally recognized speaker on issues involving special education law\, disability rights\, and student issues. Dr. Sepiol has also served as an adjunct professor in various universities where she has focused her coursework on special education and the law. She earned her education degree and law degree from Loyola University and her doctoral degree in educational leadership from National Louis University. She is a member of the Illinois Bar Association and has served on the Illinois Council of School Attorney’s Committees on Special Education and the No Child Left Behind Act.\n\nRegistration closes October 16\, at 10:00am.
