Position Maintenance/Mechanic
Job Summary Performs duties on a daily basis maintaining buildings, grounds and mechanical equipment. This includes but is not limited to performing other maintenance duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities. Assist with installing, troubleshooting and the repair of complex building systems electrical, plumbing systems and carpentry. Perform preventative maintenance cleaning, repair, adjustment, and lubrication as well as modification of equipment. Maintains buildings, grounds, athletic fields, etc. as directed. Removes snow and ice as necessary. Assist Director of Facilities as requested. Miscellaneous other assignments as specified by management.
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
Technical School Training in one or more trade (preferred).
Experience and/or training in groundskeeping and maintenance, and possess basic mechanic skills.
Ability to maintain grounds equipment and landscaping.
Requires the use of common sense understanding of instructions in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
A valid Illinois Driver’s License is necessary.
Reports to Director of Facilities
Responsibilities
Cleans, inspects, and maintains building systems.
Works off ladders, scaffolds, lifts, etc.
Works from and understands wiring diagrams, code books, schedules, service manuals and other similar documents.
Completes work in accordance with all building codes.
Proper use of hand and power tools.
Maintains a safe working environment.
Maintains buildings, grounds, landscaping, athletic fields, equipment as directed.
Removes snow and ice as necessary.
Assist in emergencies.
Perform routine paperwork as required.
Knows and uses all safety related procedures.
Performs work in all trades.
Stays current with technology advances.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisor.
Assist Director of Facilities as requested.
Other duties assigned by supervisor.

ATTENDANCE
a. Daily attendance is required to support the district’s educational program.
MOBILITY
a. Requires travel to work sites within the district.
READING
a. Read and interpret standard maintenance drawings and diagrams; read instructions in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment; identify material by label and written or computer listings.
DEXTERITY
a. Transports materials between district locations; performs repairs to equipment, fixtures, and building; performs mechanical repairs; retrieves materials from storage areas; operates motor vehicles to complete job tasks.
WRITING
a. Records written reports of maintenance activities.
COMMUNICATING
a. Discuss repair procedures with mechanics; communicate with employees, citizens, suppliers, etc.
SIGHT
a. Operates automotive equipment; visually troubleshoots and repairs systems, structural and equipment components.
Ability to maintain grounds keeping equipment.
Mechanical experience.
Ability to think and work both indoors and outdoors without immediate supervision.
Pleasant personality.
Ability to work with and around children.
Physical Demands (Strength)
Exerts 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
Exerts 25 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
Exerts 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
Workday
12pm-8pm. 8 hours per day/260 days per year
